I am very much obsessed with dresses that nip in at the waist. They suit my body shape, and I feel comfortable in something that doesn't cling to my bottom half. I noticed recently that although I have this style in different fabrics and prints, I really need to explore with different shapes.
Enter the drop waist dress. This dress is a straight cut with a flared skirt that sits below your hips and you must abide by a certain styling rule when wearing: HEELS.
Without heels this dress looks god awful and does nothing for your shape (unless you are straight up and down and super skinny and tall that is). Add a pair of heels and it ain't so bad. I'm still not 100% convinced and probably won't buy another dress in this shape, but it's nice to mix it up for a change.
What do you think about the new drop waist styles that are in stores for AW12? Yay or nay? NHG x
Outfit details: Whistles red drop waist dress, Vintage leather clutch, M&S leopard print heels (old), Uniqlo heat-tech opaque tights, House of Harlow necklace.

I think this dress looks gorgeous on you but I think my hips are so large in comparison to my waist that I need to stick to the traditional on the waist nip in :L
ReplyDeleteI think it looks gorgeous! Red is definitely your colour too :)
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about them though - my hips are my widest part so as much as I love drop waists they do absolutely nothing for me. Shame!
p.s. Love the new font!
Such a lovely colour and autumnal leaves make for the perfect backdrop! I think it's nice to experiment with different shapes every now and then. It's good to be brave! We tend to know what suits us best and use that as a blue print, but that can inch one a little close to the dreaded stuck in a rut territory! I was looking at this dress online the other day and it is great to see it on someone. I'm even more tempted to buy it now! The arm cut-out details are lovely. Olivia X
ReplyDeleteI used to be all crazy about drop waist dresses and then after a spell (probably from over-exposure of the same thing), I started going for a more structured waist instead. I love what you've done here with the red dress where you keep it interesting with leopard print and a statement necklace. You've just reminded me to get a pair of Heatech tights from Uniqlo. It's getting awfully cold these days.
ReplyDeletethat color is amazing on you! This dress works for you... frankly, I'm a little scared to try it as I think it will lengthen my (already long) torso...
ReplyDeleteRed is definitely your colour! Just wanted to say hi, and tell you how glad I am to have come across your blog. Loving all your outfits and your travel photos are just beautiful. So glad Marlene from Chocolate Cookies and Candies did a feature on you. You have a new fan, looking forward to reading more.
