Provence is one word. Stunning.
I have long dreamed of spending a summer in Provence with it's lavender fields and picturesque scenery. Not to mention the clear blue skies, the smell of lavender wafting through the air, amazing food and friendly hospitality.
I basically dragged Mr Porter and his best friend to Sault to see the lavender fields, but once they were there, they loved it too. It's impossible to not like Provence.
It was surprisingly quiet when we were there (barely any tourists at all!) and we stopped for lunch in a small local restaurant that only served two main dishes (steak or monk fish with provincial vegetables) where the menu is given to you verbally at the table and you can get three courses for €12. Lucky our fellow traveller can speak French...NHG x

Beautiful - I have always wanted to go to Provence when the lavender is in bloom!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this! I am going to the South Coast for two weeks at the end of August and am getting really excited, but at the same time really stressed about missing things. I have so many books on France now I have been getting very confused but have decided as long as I get to go to Sault I will be happy! If you have any more tips on places to go in this area or on the South coast more generally I would be very very happy! xx
