The Art of the (High Street) Trench

After today's Burberry show at London Fashion Week, my desire for a quality trench coat is stronger than ever. I owned a lovely Zara trench up until recently, when my dry cleaner lost my belt, and I ended up giving it to a charity shop for someone who is happy to wear no belt or a replacement in it's place.

High on my high street list is this Classic Banana Republic trench in Almond (£125), as worn by Laura from Wearing It Today below. I've seen a few in Topshop, however the quality isn't great. There are also classic styles in both The Kooples and Sandro on Westbourne Grove at the moment, but their prices are so high I might as well save for a life time of Burberry.

If I were to invest, I love this Burberry Brit Trench (£795).

What do you think? Is a trench worth saving for or do you think high street styles are just as nice?

  1. I too am in need of a new trench and would very much like a Burberry one but am trying to justify the cost with myself at the moment.
I nearly bought one out of BR in the sales as they were £150 down to £50. I regret not getting one but hopefully they will be in the sale again this season and I can snap one up whilst I get my head around the Burberry price point. :)

  2. I think it definitely worth saving, because it's a classic peace which you can wear for years...spring and autumn. If i need to justify my purchases i use the cost per wear method.I hope to buy a nice Burberry trench for the A-W season 2012, this spring there's a biker jacket on my wishlist:)
I like your blog very much and would be honoured if you could check out my:)

  5. I think you should save for the Burberry - it's such a classic piece to own that will never date but despite it being such a classic it's never boring, and you'd be able to wear it often enough that cost per wear would totally balance it out.

  6. I'm saving for a Burberry - it will probably take a couple of years (being a student and all) but I have always longed for one! Right now, I'm working on the guts to even walk into a Burberry store...I feel as if I don't quite belong in there yet, ha!
