Some of you may have spotted my dirty little secret (ok, it's not a secret) but I have a tattoo on my right foot. My best friend got one first, the Aboriginal symbol for woman, but I ended up with a *ahem* Chinese symbol on my foot instead.
My darling male colleagues who love to stir the pot, remind me of my tattoo whenever I'm not wearing black tights. It's tiresome. In the past few years I've grown to absolutely hate it and often photoshop it out of photos on here just because it doesn't suit my style at all.
I'm having it removed by Skn in Maida Vale as they're reputable, but there are a lot of different clinics who offer removal. I'm paying around £300 for the first four sessions and I'm hoping that it will be gone within 6 - 8 sessions. The sessions will be 6 weeks apart, so it's going to take around 12 months for it to be gone.
Removal could involve a scar, a white version of the tattoo and skin pigmentation problems such as a white patch that never tans. I should also add that this is the most painful thing I've ever experienced. I would describe the test patch without any numbing cream as "excruciating" and even with numbing cream, I cried from the pain and had to keep stopping. It kind of feels like what I imagine being struck by lightening would feel like.
The burn from the laser is so intense that my whole foot throbbed. I'm not sure what's worse - the tattoo or the pain. All I can say is if you're thinking of getting a tattoo, DON'T do it.
Do you have a tattoo that you regret getting? Have you thought about getting it removed? NHG x

Ouch twice huh. I toyed with the idea of getting a tattoo many times and always backed away as I never saw a design I was happy to live with forever. I knew that after a while I would change my mind. Also I never liked the look of old tattoos on old guys arms. The ink bleeds out and definition goes so that, what was once intricate and interesting becomes a greenish blob. I think your scar will be more interesting as your tattoo was nice and simple. Xxxx
ReplyDeleteNo tattoos, here...
ReplyDeleteThough there was a teenage flirtation with belly-button piercing - inspired foolishly, {oh God, am I really admitting this?} by Britney Spears - that I came to regret.
I hope the treatments get easier for you.

I had the piercings too Sarah! I had belly button pierced by the time I was 14 and had my tongue pierced at 16. Oh the shame...at least you can take piercings out! Thank goodness for that.
ReplyDeleteI like that you are actually coming out & saying what all our parents always told us would happen. I am sure so many bloggers wouldn't be so brave.
ReplyDeleteI always toyed with the idea of a tattoo (I was also on the Britney belly button option) but again I couldn't decide on something I was happy to live with forever (always hated seeing brides with visible tattoos or old ladies on the beach). I hope the treatments get easier & I am sure it will all be worth it in the end x
Sarah (SOTC) mentioned you were doing this....when I told her I was getting one redone!! Not because I disliked it but because it was showing it's age (it's hard to leave the state of NH without a tattoo;). I think I get along with my tattoos because they are all on my back and I never see them?! It was either get it redone or removed and I opted with the cheaper, and it sounds, less painful plan.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I don't think your tattoo is bad and for all of the bad things you listed may happen and the pain and on top of that the cost.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking why bother! You must hate it alot, have you tried just covering it up with dermablend or heavy concealers that are made for covering scars etc?
As say the worst did happen and you ended up with white raised scar that didn't tan, you're still going to get comments on it and then have to explain... but I am probably under estimating how much you hate it.
I want a tattoo but in an area that wouldn't show under normal clothing.
Costs a lot less than I thought. If I ever get any more, I'm definitely going for white ink.
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteThese are the best tips and techniques regarding Tattoo Removal Laser on the internet. I can see that this is one of the great example of Laser Hair Removal. Thanks for providing wonderful information regarding hair removal product.
Thanks
They work by targeting tattoo fading the ink with pulses of highly concentrated light that break the ink into tiny fragments, which are then cleared away the your own immune system.
ReplyDeleteMay I ask, are you finished with the treatment already? I wish to see a new blog post about your post-treatment soon. :) I agree with you, Dearne! Getting a tattoo should be carefully discussed beforehand. You know, there are other ways to cover up the scar aside from creams, natural remedies or surgical treatment. :)
