In our household engagement rings have been openly talked about for quite some time. We even discussed dates for the wedding before the official "engagement". I laughed when Grazia mentioned "pre-engagements" in their hot or not radar a few weeks ago because that was me!
I've recently added my ring inspiration to my pinterest but here is a sneak peak of what I'm thinking...what kind of rings do you like? Are you a traditional girl or do you prefer something modern or non-traditional? I really wish I had the confidence to go for a morganite coloured stone which I've had my eye on, but I just can't do it. NHG x
P.S Although I don't want my blog to turn into a 'wedding blog'. I do tend to write about what I'm into at any given time so I hope you don't mind!
In the past year I've started to think about the type of ring I'd like (because of the above), so it was no surprise when I said "here's something I prepared earlier" to Mr Porter. I'm thinking of going for a stacked or wide ring, and I also have a major penchant for pave diamonds.
I was in a meeting with a stylist from Harper's Bazaar a few weeks back and all I could do was stare at her stacked rings the whole meeting...I have tiny hands (I'm a size H which is one of the smallest standard sizes) so a solitaire just doesn't suit me. Mr Porter also doesn't like them, and even though it's completely up to me, I'd like to get something he actually likes too!

Congratulations NHG that's fantastic news! These days you can write your own rules regarding rings. :-)
ReplyDeleteI don't have an engagement ring, but my wedding ring is an antique from the 1930s, with a small square emerald surrounded by small diamonds and diamonds on the band. Sort of similar to this: http://www.etsy.com/listing/64873233/deco-green-emerald-ring-diamonds-gold?ref=sr_gallery_5&ga_search_type=all&ga_includes%5B0%5D=materials&ga_search_query=emerald&ga_facet=
I had my heart set on stacked rings similar to what you've pictured, but we found this ring in an antique store, the colour of the emerald is beautiful and it fit my skinny fingers perfectly! We took it as a sign ;-)
I'm taking gloves on and off all day so my ring had to be flat.
Those photos above are lovely!
I also love Pave set rings and I hunted high and low for a Pave set wedding ring. I had seen somebody wearing one a few years before I got married and as this lady walked towards me on a bright sunny day, the sparkle that was coming off her wedding ring was amazing! I finally tracked one down in a little Jewellers not far from Liverpool St (back in my corporate days) called E.A. Barker. It was just what I was looking for and cost £795 11 1/2 years ago and I still love it to this day. Only problem is it is yellow gold, but you can't have everything and it doesn't sit well with an engagement ring, so the jeweller took that as PX, so I totally get your Pave obsession, you go for it Girl and I can't wait to see what you get xxx
ReplyDeleteMine is actually more like this: http://www.etsy.com/listing/64310331/vintage-columbian-emerald-and-diamonds?ref=sr_gallery_31&ga_search_type=all&ga_includes%5B0%5D=materials&ga_search_query=emerald&ga_page=2&ga_language_carousel=no&ga_facet=
ReplyDelete(San price tag though!)
I am a G/H on that special finger and I have a solitaire diamond but on a really, really fine band and I think that it suits me but obviously that look is not for everyone. I agree that it is harder to find rings to suit little hands. I too like stacking my rings as I have my wedding ring and a ring for my son that finger too but there is always room for an eternity ring :)
ReplyDeleteEventhough your don't want it to turn into a wedding blog but keep us update about the situation as it will be really exiting !! :D The rings you have above there has gorgeous designs, such a great inspiration and also CONGRATULATION !! :D

I love all the timelessy elegant rings you show here. You won't make any mistakes by choosing a similar model! And please do talk about wedding preparations ;-)
ReplyDeleteI was browsing the Tiffany website and came upon this engagement ring which I absolutely love:

Now all I have to do is find a fiance...
Thank you for all sharing, I love finding out what other people like as the whole process is quite daunting!
ReplyDeleteMeg - your ring is amazing!! My friend wears an aquamarine and it just suits her so much. I really wanted the coloured stone but have a tendancy to change my mind so I was worried I'd grow out of it :(
Anne - I had my heart set on that exact ring for quite awhile! I was going to copy it because I don't have a £15k budget ;) When I tried it on I didn't love it as much as the Bvlgari B Zero 3 row diamond ring which is where I got the inspiration for the 'stacked' look.
It looks like you want a slightly vintage feel without being too over the top? As Anne suggests do check out the Tiffanys website because they have a "find your perfect engagement ring" feature that is very cute. If your hands and fingers are small you might just need a delicate band but the stones could still remain... oo decisions decisions. Good luck!

Engagement rings are one of my favourite topics even if I'm married and already got one (which is a beautiful classic solitaire). To be honest the 'ring of my dreams' has always been the eternity band (let's see if it comes true...), therefore I fully understand your passion for stacked rings. Of your lovely selection, my vote goes to the ring on the second row, first from the right. Just beautiful. Keep us posted!

That top left one's a stunner! The perfect balance of traditional and contemporary!
ReplyDeleteCongrats!

Well, I'm a whole year too late, so this is just for the record, but I always think that aquamarine makes a wonderful engagement ring... !
ReplyDeleteInteresting about the different styles for different finger/hand sizes, this was certainly something I had no idea about when buying my ring and ended up just sticking to a solitaire brilliant cut (Tiffany style) which fortunately for me did suit :) I, too wasn't a diamond girl, but really didn't feel comfortable committing to anything else for a lifetime.
ReplyDeleteI am late for over a year; Nonetheless, I’d still want to say congratulations! Hmm, how did your hunt turn out? Based from the pictures you have provided, I can say that you want a ring that’s not boring and not overwhelming at the same time (much like what styleonthecouch said). There’s no better way to explain it, but once you feel that it’s the ring for you, you just know it. Hope everything went well!
