I've been to many beach side destinations but never has my jaw dropped like it did when I stepped off the boat at Cala Luna beach on the east coast of Sardinia. The beach which is set in the Gulf of Orosei is only accessible on foot by hiking from nearby Cala Fuili or by boat from the marina at Cala Gonone.
The crystal clear water is a mix of turquoise and azure blue and the beach is set against a backdrop of limestone caves and lush vegetation. While there are very affluent and 'flashy' parts of Sardinia, Cala Luna is like being on your own secluded island. We stayed until dusk and caught the last boat back to the marina and it was truly magical watching the sun set across the fresh water pool that sits back from the sea.
While I only scratched the surface of Sardinia by visiting the north east coast, I can promise you that this part of the island is not to be missed if you ever visit. I now list it as my 'favourite beach in Europe' and being Australian, I'm a bit of a harsh critic...
Have you been to Sardinia? I would love to know where you visited and your thoughts as I'm planning to visit again in 2012. NHG x
P.S These photos weren't taken with my DSLR - just my normal Sony digital camera!

I've been absolutely adoring (and having a 'liking' frenzy) all your pictures of this Sardinian beach on Instagram - oh how spectacular it looks! And you're right about us Australians being harsh critics ;)
ReplyDeleteHow long would you recommend spending in Sardinia out of interest (ie. could I do it justice on a long weekend away?)

I went with my mum a few years ago, it was gorgeous and we enjoyed every minute. The beaches there are really beautiful. Only thing is she wanted to buy all the expensive corals! ;-)
ReplyDeleteOh so beautiful!

Stunning photos, I went to Cagliari a couple of years ago. It was quite quiet, I think a lot of the locals go away during August, and the beach was lovely. I'd definitely go back again.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos!
ReplyDeleteFollow each other? :)

Wow wow wow. I saw your tweets about the place but the photos are amazing. I've never been to Sardinia but I have a good friend who holidays there and is in LOVE with the place. I hope you had a lovely break, I was sad to miss you in London though x
