I love knowing what other people are using on their hair (and skin), so I've decided to share my current hair product routine with you. I have medium thickness hair, no split ends (ever) and it's slightly oily. I've only had around three hair trims in the last 12 mths as I'm growing out my hair and I'm nearly there!
Shampoo/Conditioner: I've been using L'Oreal Elvive Nutri-Gloss Light since I arrived in the UK as it doesn't leave my hair greasy. Lately I've fancied a change, so I recently purchased Bumble and Bumble Tonic Shampoo and Seaweed Conditioner at the recommendation of my hairdresser. RRP around £18 - £20 at Space NK. Note: I would not purchase the Tonic Shampoo again as it's very drying and I don't feel like my hair is properly clean afterwards.
Dry Shampoo: I recently decided that I had to give up my addiction to washing my hair every-single-day-of-my-life. It's tiresome just thinking about it. I've been using Batiste dry shampoo for brown hair lately, but decided to use an old favourite, Klorane, as they have just released a new sebum-controlling version of their original dry shampoo. RRP £7.50 at John Lewis.
Hairspray: Again, I've never been a huge hairspray fan as I prefer the feel of natural hair. Since giving up my hair washing addiction, hairspray has become my best friend for updos. I've always used L'Oreal Elnett hairspray - doesn't everyone? RRP £3 at Boots.
Protection: I was gifted Shu Uemura Absolue Essence oil last summer by TONI&GUY and absolutely love it! It smells divine, it makes my hair silky smooth and can be used on dry or wet hair. I apply a pea size amount to the ends of wet hair before blow drying. RRP £39.95 at TONI&GUY.
Volume: I love thicker hair when I go out, so I always use a tiny bit of Tibi Bedhead Superstar blow-dry lotion before drying. It really does work, but it's not for everyday use as it makes my hair slightly more greasy the next day. RRP £9.95.
Let me know if you have any recommendations as I've never been loyal to my products (I'm a marketer's nightmare). NHG x

I use this wonderful called Orofluido, it's lovely, like the Shu Uemura, just a small amount through the lengths of your hair to help strengthen and add volume. It also makes blow drying your hair twice as fast! xo p.s. love the blog!!
ReplyDeleteI have very fine hair sadly but over the years I have found various products that really help with this but I still need to wash my hair everyday as it is of a greasy nature. I am currently in the market for a new shampoo as I used to use shampoo aimed at men with receeding hairlines (!) but I have found that so long as I use Lee Stafford's sea salt spray when blowdrying, I can use any shampoo I like. I am now in the market for a shampoo for coloured hair as I dye my blonde hair brown and the shampoo I was using was not doing the colour much good. Great post x
ReplyDeleteI really dislike the smell of elnett hairspray so I use silvikrin instead! I need it to tame my pst chemo hair which is growing really fast! My hair has changed texture and thickness and I am still trying to find the right shampoo and conditioner for it as what I used to use is just too heavy for it! x
ReplyDeleteHi NHG!
ReplyDeleteI moved to Newcastle about a year ago from Australia and have noticed that my hair is much less shiny, dry, I've got more split ends and bad dandruff. I'm blaming the hard water and the length of time it takes for my hair to dry on it's own. (I'm quite lazy, so I generally don't blow dry).
My hair is long, slightly wavy and a little dry.
I'm a dedicated Aveda girl. I love their smooth infusion shampoo and conditioner, and I'm a big fan of the damage remedy leave-in conditioner. I use the Smooth Infusion Style-Prep Smoother before I straighten my hair and finishing with the Smoothing fluid for some shine and to tame a little bit of frizz.
Unfortunately I also need to use a ketoconozole shampoo to control dandruff. Something I never struggled with in Aus!
I love the Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray, but can't find it in the UK. Where to you buy your B&B products from?

I have very thick curly hair and I used to try product after product to find what was right for me. I finally found it in Kerastase - even though I think they are expensive I love my hair so I'm happy to splurge. I use their Bain Satin shampoo (no2)and this amazing conditioner - Fondant Nutri-Thermique which I leave in when I dry my hair. Amazing curls, always.
ReplyDeleteBig fan of Bumble and Bumble too - they have a super intensive conditioner I love. What a great idea to share products!

Ooooh love finding out what other people use - really need to try this dry shampoo as so many people swear by it. Kiehl's olive oil shampoo is fantastic - I use it for one wash a week and can still see a good difference xx
ReplyDeleteI need to stop washing my hair daily too, I hated batiste dry shampoo but will give Klorane a try.
ReplyDeleteI find that I need to keep rotating shampoos. One brand will be good for a while and then it doesn't work as well in terms of getting really glossy hair but rotating them seems to do the trick. My hairdresser uses Bumble and Bumble which reminds me that I should get some as the results were amazing (or it could be the way they blowdry).
ReplyDeleteMy hair is just sad without any product, and I LOVE trying new ones! I haven't had much luck with Bumble and Bumble shampoo/conditioner (usually use Kerastase) but I do love their dry shampoo (which comes in colors!). I will have to give Klorane a go and add it to my small arsenal of hair goodies.
ReplyDeleteIf you like to know what people wear on their hair and skin, do you follow the blog Into the Gloss? It's really brilliant and my new addiction!
ReplyDeleteI request a post on how to apply dry shampoo from you. I've tried the Klorane one once and it was a complete disaster, leaving my hair powdery and grey :-/
