I absolutely love candles, especially by Diptyque. Most of my girlfriends have received a Baies candle from me at some stage in the last few years as they are the perfect fail-safe gift!
Lately I've started to accumulate the empty jars and they are just far too pretty to throw away. The best thing about Diptyque wax is that is comes right out! No scrubbing or soaking required. I simply take a teaspoon and scrap the remaining wax out, soak in hot water for a couple of minutes and then wipe out with a scrubbing brush. The wax washes straight off the spoon with hot water. It's as easy as that!
I currently use mine for eyeliners/mascara, hair elastics/bobby pins, nail files/clippers/cuticle trimmer and make-up brushes. Here are a few more suggestions that I've read:
Jewellery: rings, beads, brooches or hair-clips. Hang earrings off the lip of the jar.
Collectibles: use the candle glass to hold collections of anything small that you have a lot of - buttons, feathers or sequins.
Planter: try making a miniature planter with flower seeds or herbs. This would look gorgeous on my kitchen window sill.
Sweets: fill it with bright coloured sweets like a mini candy buffet.
Work: use the empty glass to hold your business cards, coloured pencils, pens, paperclips, sticks of white chalk.
What do you use your empty candle jars for? I'd love to know! You can purchase Diptyque candles online at John Lewis here. NHG x

Perfect timing for this post De as I recycled a Diptyque candle jar for the very first time last weekend. I followed the advice you gave me on Twitter and the remaining wax came out pretty well. My use of it isn't very glamorous (it holds my toothbrush and toothpaste) but it does give a vintage feel to my bathroom that I like :-)
ReplyDeleteThis is the cutest idea! I'm so glad Anne tweeted the link to this post so I could discover it :)
